How my friend Rita has changed! When I met her, she had a note in her profile that said she rejected any "chat sex". She was so lovely, and such a good RPer, that I pursued her anyway. And eventually the warning disappeared. :) Apparently I gave her her first lesbian sex, which is always nice. And now, look at her:
Yes, she is in demon form, and bought herself a big gray cock! And with my very willing help she learned how to use it last night.
I know, I'm a bad influence.

How to be a rogue
No sex this entry, I'm afraid. Instead I'm going to ramble about how to RP a rogue.
Some video games, especially those by Bioware, support a good vs. evil morality system which seems geared toward teenage boys. Some of them make an attempt to make the 'evil' option more defensible (e.g. Mass Effects' "renegade"), but it still comes down to acting like an insulting, arrogant asshole. There's a whole 'nother approach, that of the rogue.
The basics
Most of this is personal taste, but models include characters like Han Solo, Catwoman, Sam Spade, the Gray Mouser, Lilith from Borderlands, Hunter from Neverwhere, and just about anyone played by Humphrey Bogart.
When possible, use ranged weapons. Why risk getting hurt when you can get the job done from afar?
Be polite, even friendly. You can learn a lot that way, and why put anyone on guard?
Never boast. Let your actions be your best advertisement. It's always best if no one else knows what cards you have.
If you promise to do anything-- whether it's to find the missing prince or to cut someone if they say another word-- follow through. Conversely, never make a threat you can't back up.
75% of making a role work-- whether it's domming or an impersonation-- is attitude. Be confident and don't talk too much.
Dress conservatively, protecting your body but allowing flexible movement. Black leather is perfect. You want to disappear in the shadows without being given away by gleaming metal.
You may wish to partner with a strong, flamboyant warrior. The fact that they will attract all the attention will allow you to be all the deadlier.
You are always wary. By instinct and constant vigilance, you keep your back from the seemingly friendly stranger, you know where the exits are, you don't ignore little sounds.
You're not demonstrative-- you show little sign of anger, resentment, or fear. But you're a good actor; you can easily pose as the best friend of your victim.
Even if you rely on your blade or your blaster, you value knowledge. You speak multiple languages, you know more than one town street by street, and you have skills from a number of crafts. Though skeptical of religion and magic, you don't foolishly reject them either; you may know a few useful spells or prayers.
You never lose sight of what you're after, whether it's revenge, gold, or information.
A female rogue isn't above using her charms to disarm or to find out information, and certainly doesn't object to sex. But maintain some reserve, and make it obvious you know how to use your weapons. Sex can make males a bit irrational; use this to your advantage.
Rogues can be good or evil, but always have a healthy dash of the opposite alignment. If good, they are never zealous and may be reluctant to commit to a fight that seems unwinnable. If evil (or more likely self-interested), they may nonetheless be charming and might have a friend or a romance with the other side.
The appeal
One reason I like to play rogues, I think, is that it's a more feminine approach. It's logical, for one: dealing damage from afar or by surprise makes sense for a smaller, weaker body. Posturing-- being nasty or arrogant like a teenage gamer boy, or boastful like a Homeric hero-- tends to seem ridiculous to women. And acting comes naturally.
On the other hand, none of this should be assumed to apply to real life! I am quiet in real life but hardly sneaky, and an actual amoral person in real life is a huge headache, not a hero! Some things are great fun in games and books and movies but not in reality.

On being a switch
I think I realized something about my domme/sub preferences recently. It switches back and forth, you see. My not very profound realization is that if I haven't done either for awhile, then I crave submission. Domming is haaaard, let's go subbing. But if I'm getting enough of it, I prefer to top.
During my first year in SL, I had two long-term subs. That meant a fair amount of topping, and my profile said that I was generally a domme. But when I hit a dry spell and don't have much B/D at all, I usually want to be topped.
But this is all complicated by my experience that I'll have a better time with a random sub than with a random domme (or even dom). I'm a little wary of submitting to a relative stranger... at the very least I'd like to see if they can RP and if they're into anything really weird.
On the other hand, it's never too late to learn something new. Just last night, messing around in a hot tub, a friend introduced me rather suddenly to breath play. She held my head down underwater, while I was licking her pussy, and was very very slow to let me up to breathe. I don't know why, and I don't know if it would work again, but for some reason I found this incredibly hot.
Reactions can be odd though. Also recently, I was playing as a student at the reform school. At one point no less than three people were leaning on me: a teacher, her student pet, and a passing staff member. Far from making me feel submissive, I was pissed off. If it takes three people to hold me down, that's not a topping, it's just a beatdown.

How not to do it, part 3
Last night racked up a couple more entries in the Bad Encounters sweepstakes. One was a boy who accosted my friend Donna when I took her to Hard Alley. Problems:
- Extremely poor English. Donna had trouble understanding what he wanted.
- He wanted some capture RP but apparently didn't know how to do it. It'd pretty sad when a girl has to give lessons to an abuser.
- Asked for voice and RL pictures. Oh god. Donna bolted for safety. I really hate this type of guy, who treats SL as foreplay for webcam sex or something.

Meeting Kata
Tomorrow is my rezday— my fourth anniversary in SL. So let's set the way-back machine to Dec. 31, 2006, for my first meeting with Kata.
I created a red silk bra this afternoon, but I wasn’t very happy with it.
I said "Happy New year" to several people, mostly looking for invitations to join them... Zoe responded, saying that she was dancing— naked— and offering to teleport me. She was at a nudist resort, and indeed, almost everyone was dancing naked. I got naked, but had terrible trouble finding the place to click to start dancing... finally got it.
Zoe disappeared, and I danced a little more; but then I contacted Susan, and gently hinted that I wasn’t doing much. She got me invited to the party she was at, at a girl named Kata Kita’s house. There were four others there: Susan, Mado, Steph, Kata, another girl, and a guy named SKS. They were playing Truth or Dare, a game which has already produced some notorious events in the neighborhood.
For secret reasons, Susan was to announce frequently that she was a teapot— most of the night she had a title reading "Really a teapot". This was apparently the result of an earlier dare from Mado, though the conditions were secret.
At some point Kata’s sister Emmaline showed up. This introduced some interesting byplay; Emmaline was obviously the older sister, and they were a little affectionately grumpy with each other.
Let’s see if I remember some of the T&Ds...
• I was asked to assume my favorite position; I chose dolllay. Kata admired it quite a bit, which led Sophia to order me to title myself "Lovely little billboard".
• Steph chose truth; Mado accepted my suggestion that we ask what inanimate object she was. Mado amended it to, which object she’d like to be. However, she pooped out with her answer (‘nothing’).
• The girl whose name I forgot did a pole dance.
• I had Mado choose someone and make out on the rug for a minute.
• Susan had to demonstrate the St Andrew’s Cross with three different people
• I had to be group slave until someone said the magic word. Before anyone even ordered me to do anything, Emmaline did: it was teapot. Now she was group slave; I chose the word "sexy" for her. No one ever said it!
• Emmaline had to be spanked by Steph.
• I asked Kata to demonstrate her favorite machine in the room. She showed us a nasty-looking wall device.
• I asked Steph to discipline Emmaline. She tied her to the cross— but when it was too evident that Emmaline was enjoying this, the punishment became being left unpunished.
• Susan was asked to describe a scene she’d like to do with Kata. Instead, she enacted it. This was probably the highlight of the evening... she took Kata out front, had her kneel in the snow, put on a strap-on, and had Kata service it while describing how terribly cold the snow was. Kata seemed to really get into this, and had an Xcite orgasm. At one point Sophia asked for a volunteer to scoop more snow under her ass; I helped out with this. Kata role-played nicely, grouching afterward how damn cold she was.
• Susan made me put on an enormous, black & white furry cat costume— male, no less— and told me to make the shape obese. Ugh!! I’m afraid this made me very sulky, though Mado said she liked the costume. But Emmaline later dared me to undo it, so that was OK...
By now it was nearly 6, and I had to sign off, while the game was still going on!
It was fun, and I made one new friend, Kata. She has a very nice house, complete with in-bedroom bondage devices. I also talked to her a little, mostly about wild animals. (Mado is Australian, and tried to scare us with tales of drop-bears. Look it up.)

Anecdote
A couple weeks ago I was playing hide-and-strip with Emmy. This involves running around a dungeon trying to find each other; whoever gets within chat range (20 m) and says the leash command first wins. The winner strips an item off the loser, and you play again till one gets naked and become the winner's toy for the rest of the evening.
I lost, and Emmy managed to find something novel to do: try to get me to talk to strangers. This really made me nervous, but I was also eager to be obedient, so it was a very effective task.
We were in a dungeon, and one woman she sent me to talk to looked severely out of place. Not only was she dressed like a lady, but her profile professed her to be a member of various Anglican groups... no hint of kinkiness at all. I really wondered if she was in the wrong sim, or was here to convert people. Still, she was polite when I talked to her.
About half an hour later, I noticed the church lady... naked and being spanked by some guy. So she was in the right place after all.

Trauma arc
Here's an example of how to turn a one-off RP session into an ongoing dramatic arc.
I invited a friend, Emmy, to Doomed Ship. She decided to play a pirate. We had barely introduced ourselves when we were approached by a demon... a big gray dude breathing malevolently. He had a malicious proposition for us: he could destroy us both, or we could choose one of us to save and one to be sacrificed.
(Even extreme RP is consensual, and we could have refused to play; but Emmy was up to see what happened.)
Emmy seemed to have a plan... something about pretending to offer one of us, the other causing a distraction. I wasn't sure about this, but I was the only one armed and the demon could probably take both of us, so I didn't see much choice. She offered to shake hands on her idea.
I extended my hands, and she cuffed them instead, and attached them to a leash. She then offered me to the demon, in return for fuel to leave the ship.
Emmy is new to RP, but this was a briliant move... simple, surprising and completely amoral. The demon accepted the offer of course, and I (in character) was so flustered and angry that I couldn't think to protest.... my hands were bound anyway, and all I could do was hope that the bargain would turn against Emmy, the betrayer.
The demon took me to the basilica (why a spaceship has one I don't know, but it's a huge ship), Emmy tagged along as she wanted her fuel. The demon performed a little ritual... I guess they're religious chaps in their own way. The sacrifice consisted of slicing through my suit, raping me, and then taking a part of my soul.
The demon then told Emmy where to find fuel, and left. Emmy was apologetic but defensive... she was sorry but I was alive, so you know we should let bygones be bygones... she released my leash. I adjusted the remains of my suit, then turned my gun on her.
(I consulted with the demon about what he meant by 'taking my soul.' He didn't have much of an idea... he said demons are just "randy buggers." I decided that it meant that my strongest emotions-- fear, shame, anger, joy, humor-- were deadened. I could still feel the animal emotions-- hunger, thirst, lust-- and my reason was intact, so I could think about dangers and decisions.)
So, undeterred by fear or shame, I took my revenge on Emmy. She kept trying to argue or talk me down till it was clear what I was doing. I found a strap-on in a cabinet and fucked her. Unlike me, she came from her rape. I left her tied up...
Now this was a pretty interesting evening of RP... Emmy had a great time, she evidently loves capture RP. I could have left it there. But here's the key bit: I extended this into nearly a week of additional story. More, really, since the consequences are still ongoing.
Briefly, I acted the hell out of my new personality: unemotional, fearless, but socially awkward (my normal inhibitions were gone). I have a dear friend at Doomed Ship, a girl named Rita that I have a big crush on. I told her about the incident, and we investigated options... talked to doctors, investigated the Basilica. I was able to read the demons' book of ritual, as the demon had left a connection to his mind.
She suggested that we needed a magic user, so I kept asking people if they knew magic. Rita can walk shadows to teleport, so we actually ended up for a night on a planet somewhere (actually the surface of the sim), with a little lake... we took a swim and I was able to play with her a bit... though not as much as I'd like; since I was damaged she didn't entirely trust me.
Last night Rita took me back to the Basilica, where we made a bargain with another demon to restore my soul. The price, unfortunately, was that she lost her own for a period of three months. She interpreted this as losing her shadow nature... leaving her as an unprotected human, and moreover unused to human emotions, senses, and mores.
All this is what I call storytelling RP... not just staying in character, but creating ongoing stories, all through improvisation-- and stories where big things happen. The overall situation of Doomed Ship doesn't change... we're never really going to get rid of the monsters. But dramatic things can happen to us, and change us, and we can react to those changes in ourselves and others.
I'm already thinking of tonight's session, which I think will focus on survivor guilt... I'm going to feel terribly guilty over what happened to Rita. Also still desiring her intently. Also I've got to teach her how to use a gun, as her shadow powers are gone and she's essentially defenseless.
A couple principles if you want to try this at home:

A couple principles if you want to try this at home:
- Let bad things happen; that's what creates stories. Defensiveness and godmodding block stories, because nothing serious ever happens.
- Solutions should always introduce new problems. (E.g. Rita's way of curing my own soullessness was to lose her shadow nature.)
- Don't be afraid to be ridiculous. When I'd lost part of my soul, I had a lot of fun acting this out; I compared it to being autistic. E.g. I had lost my usual social inhibitions, so I could speak very callously about some of the ship's horrors. When Rita lost her shadow nature, she was almost drunk with the new human sensations she was feeling.)
