How not to run a sim

I'm not sure anyone reads this except Piglet.  Hi, Piglet.

Anyway, last entry was a little depressing. so before ranting I should put things on a more positive note. I'm back in SL almost every night, having a good time.  That's mostly due to these fine folks:

Let's call them Eusebio and Glynn.  I met them at Dark Alley, and they're excellent RPers.  And good in virtual bed.

And that's the key for me at least to have fun in SL: have some friends who are there almost every day.  Sex every other day would be ideal, but some delays are OK if the RP is good. :)

Now for the rant.  E&G and I have also been doing some space pirate RP at Botany Bay, often including Kata. (And Piglet even made a now-rare but memorable appearance.  As a lovely victim.) I organized an ongoing story involving a long trek to another planet.

I was going to use Midian, but they're closed for renovations.  Kata found another place, a SF sim which I won't name.  It has a lovely build-- a busy, slightly rundown city.  Botany Bay is a frontier colony, so this place stood in for a near-core world, a place where we could sell some goods (some legally acquired, some not so much).

All that went well.  Most of the action went down in a bar and grill (apparently the only eating place in the sim). We were alone at first, but then a few people drifted by.  For what it's worth, I noticed that one of them was someone I'd blocked... though I couldn't for the life of me remember when or why.

In any case, someone took offense at our RP and rushed excitedly to an admin.  The admin trundled in and busted us:
[23:21] [admin]: Mavia, eusebio, ethi, may you all come with me please))

Oh man, we been narced.  Look at that cop attitude.  No hello, no welcome to the sim, just come with me because we have to stop this unseemly RP immediately.

Are you curious what our offense was?  I wasn't; we were pretty much done, so I left.  But my companions were nicer, and stayed to find out. The offense was that Eusebio was a non-approved alien species (this in a sim that allows furries), while Ethi was wearing non-earned cyborg attachments.  Not even non-approved, just not earned according to the sim's gameplay.

(Admittedly we were also talking discreetly about other stars when, IIRC, their sim is some kind of post-apocalyptic Earth.  But I don't recall hearing about this.)

This sort of thing happened to me once before.  Rita and I were playing vampires in an urban sim.  We were using the Masquerade rules, which actually forbid open use of powers in public.  We were just talking, and to each other.  Again, some busybody heard this, freaked out, and some admin carefully explained that although they used to use VTM rules, they now had their own vampire rules and we were non-conforming.  Eugggh.  He was more polite, at least.

Now, I understand where this urge to regulate comes from. If you're running a medieval sim, you don't want people running around in spacesuits. If you're a Star Wars sim, you'd like players to fit in with that somehow. If you want an all-human sim and you get furries, well, you do what you have to do.

But... come on, sim admins.  Don't be assholes.  Consider what this looks like from our point of view: We came to your sim because we liked the build.  We joined the group, wore the stupid titler.  We kept to ourselves, didn't impose our story on anyone else. We did nothing but talk in the bar.  We're trained RPers, the sort who will bring ongoing stories to life and make the sim an interesting place.  This is not griefing.  The bystanders who complained, they were griefing.  They interrupted a private RP just to be assholes.  You supported them, just to be an asshole.  You're helping make SL a shittier place.

And then sim owners complain about why people abandon their sims, or why there's no quality RP going on.

Here's the somewhat sad truth, sim admins/owners: It's a big SL. There's always somewhere else to go, and frankly I've never seen a sim which was so attractive in itself that I wanted to stay there indefinitely.  It's people that make me come back to a sim regularly.  And those people are rarely the admins, either.  The attraction is the people who've chosen that sim to hang out, have sex, make stories.

The sim owners and admins, in fact, are rarely out there playing on their sims.  If they were, they could influence the stories people are creating.  Without them, people will create their own-- making the sim a good place to hang out.  To be honest, they'll probably use the sim's architecture as their most important source of lore.

As an example, I used to hang out at Doomed Ship with Rita and/or Kata.  I never saw an admin.  For awhile there were some regulars, and we cobbled together a sort of collective, low-key, accepting story.  There were monsters on the lower decks; once you arrived you were trapped.  People told slightly contradictory stories, so I came up with a nice metastory to explain this: the anomaly in control of the ship could grab people from different timelines.  It worked fine.

Anyway.  It's not important in the scheme of things, and all it really means is that we'll avoid the asshole sim and go somewhere else.

But while I'm at it... I gotta laugh at the "earning" cyborg parts thing.  "A deep, complex system", the admin earnestly explained.  I'm sorry, but you can't turn SL into an RPG or a MMO with scripts.  If you want a crafting system, go play Eve Online or Fallout or Minecraft or something... games designed with a consistent overall system that the player needs to advance.  SL sucks when you try to add a combat system, and it sucks when you try to add an economic system, and it doubly sucks when you try to add levelling.  I was in one sim that had its own currency and jobs you had to work at once a day... it's interesting for a few days, and then it's boring as hell.  Focus on what SL is good at: having real live people to play with.  And, you know, try not to chase them off for bullshit reasons.

Why I'm not around much

Wow, I haven't posted since March.  Partly this is due to my natural laziness, but mostly it's because it's been a long dry spell in Second Life.  Here's a nice picture, but I had to go back over a year to find it.

I don't really know what's happened.  I log on, maybe chat with some friends, wander around a sim where no one is talking, and end up leaving, frustrated.

This isn't to say nothing good ever happens.  But most of it lately has been dates with my friend Kata, blessings on her.  But it's like everyone else has forgotten me.  I'm really sorry to be so negative, but on the other hand if you looked at my profile and ended up here to find out what happened to me, this is what happened.

My best times in SL have been when I've had either friends I could count on to be around night after night, or a sim that I could wander with a pretty good chance of finding random (preferably sexy) RP.  But all the sims I know have turned dry.  Dark Alley was good for awhile, mostly because of the college headmaster, Tea-- but he disappeared, and I can walk the unsafest alleys and tunnels of DA now without so much as a catcall.  Even at meatmarket sims like Bukkake Bliss nothing happens.

Over a year ago I'd regularly hang out at Doomed Ship, mostly with my friend Rita (pictured above).  But I got a little too much of it.  In part, this is because it turns out that for adventure, horror, and even co-op and roleplaying experience, video games tend to be a better bet than SL.  Once you've played Dead Space, then Doomed Ship doesn't have the same thrill.  I miss the sex, though!

I expect I'll be back intermittently.  I've had dry spells before, sometimes for months on end.  And sometimes I've been lucky and found new friends or an active sim after a long drought.  But at the moment I feel like I'm wasting my time.

Creepy dom

A really interesting warning post about creepy doms from the RL kink community:

http://kinkylittlegirl.wordpress.com/2010/07/15/a-field-guide-to-creepy-dom-2/

It's not the same in SL, because we can log off at any time, and of course there's no STDs.  But I've run into Creepy Dom often enough.  Though in SL it's hard to tell him from Noob Dom.

How not to do it part 942

I showed up in DA tonight and almost immediately, some chick grabbed my collar.

That's a mixed bag-- trending negative.  I don't like people just touching my collar, especially without saying a word, and out in the middle of the street.  But I give a little leeway to women, so I waited to see what would happen.

Chick: hello girl
Me: hello there
Chick: what brings u here
Me: i teach at the college...
Chick: yeah? what
Me: mostly art and comportment
Chick smiles
Chick: maybe i can teach u something
Me: yeah? like what?
Chick pulls off ur top

She used the collar to take off my top and jeans, then started dragging me somewhere.  I logged out.

She kinda lost me at "u", but real turnoff was the complete lack of RP.  Things don't have to be realistic, but what kind of scene starts with a stranger collaring you in the street and taking off your clothes?

(And though DA is a place for rape fantasies-- one, the minimal dialog made no sense for a rapist; and two, DA's rules are actually quite clear about requiring OOC consent.)

Maybe I should have perservered-- for Science.  I strongly suspect the chick was played by a guy.  Could he actually handle a lesbian topping, or would he have pulled out a dick?

How to do it

I've mentioned the headmaster at Dark Alley College, Tea.  Here's a recent pic:

I happen to have a picture of that night, but I wanted to talk about last night.  I came by the school and there were a bunch of people in the gym, including Tea.  I didn't want to interrupt anything, but I figured I could go in and see what was going on.

A moment later Tea came up to me and gently asked if I'd take off my clothes.

I did of course... how can you resist a nice order like that, from your headmaster?  He took me over to the basketball hoop, tied me to it so I was naked and helpless in front of several other people, and fingered me to orgasm.

Then he released me, kissed me warmly, and helped me get dressed.

This is one of my favorite things, really... someone takes me in public, treating me as a sexual plaything while people watch, and I cooperate fully, embarrassed but also excited to be naked and being used.  I love a little humiliation, and it was all the better because a couple of students were frankly staring at us.

What makes it go down so easily, however, is Tea's attitude.  He is never harsh (unless a girl is very disobedient).  He's always polite and extremely appreciative.  That's not to say he's saccharine: he loves leashing and tying up, and sometimes likes to cause pain.  But I'll do almost anything for a kind dom/domme.

He has a neat topping technique-- he always expects a response to anything he does, even in IMs, and he'll punish you (lightly) if you forget.  I might have to use that in my topping repertoire.

(The pic is from an earlier session when he took me downstairs into the school cellar, tied me up, and fucked me.)

What not to do #291

First, this guy was dressed as a misshapen dwarf with an exposed penis.  Then he started talking to me in IM.  "Your sooo cute" isn't bad, but then it was one strike after another.

Dwarf: do you look like your avi in rl
That's just not going to go anywhere good.  And then!

Dwarf: how does it work here
Mavia: in dark alley?
Dwarf: rlv
Dwarf: grab and rape and all that
Dwarf: im little more traditional
Dwarf: dance
Dwarf: dinner
Dwarf: fondle
Dwarf: lol
Dwarf: sorry
Euuurrrgh... I dunno, I guess it's supposed to be dirty-old-man cute, but it comes off as creepy.  (Remember: dwarf with big dick.)  I put him off as gently as I could, and he lamented:

Dwarf: you run around and then you finnaly meet your dream girl
Dwarf: and
Dwarf: poof
Dwarf: go figure

Uh, yeah.  For the genuinely clueless: girls are not impressed that, at first sight, you announce that you've found your dream girl.  This does not come across as romantic.  It comes across as superficial and unrealistic.  We want to be loved for more than our looks.

What not to do #whatever

First, a picture only tangentially related to the theme-- namely, what I was up to tonight:

We're supposed to be helpful to the senior staff, you see.  The help professor Dhar had in mind was to get me cuffed, spank me hard, and then suspend me by chains over hot candles.

I had to experiment with this to know how to react.  I mean, I know candles are pretty hot right above them-- you can seriously burn your hand.  But it looked like I was suspended about two feet up.  So I tried it in RL.  I had no suspension rig so I just lit a candle and tested what it felt like at that distance.  Turns out, it's quite bearable; it feels warm but it's not gonna sear your flesh.

Anyway, the unfortunate thing was that he disappeared just as he started playing with me.  I hate when that happens.

But more important complaining: clueless would-be abusers!  Twice in the last week some doofus in DA briefly messaged me and then offered a TP.  One of them said nothing but "comehere"... no spaces even!  That's creepy, but more than that, it doesn't work!  Even true submissives mock guys like that.

There's a girl in DA whose profile begs you not to IM her first.  And I understand that: at least some minimal RP is expected.  I'm far from hard to get!  I won't make you take me out to dinner, you don't need a fancy car or job, and I'll happily suggest a scenario that guarantees you can do what you want with me.  But don't be like the guy tonight who saw me once the professor had poofed and IM'd me "wanna fuck on that [device]?"  Not when you put it that way, no!

How do you do it?  Talk!  Assume a role... in any RP sim you can just play the role and people will accept it.  Also, even if you're a predator, IMs are always to be friendly and respectful.

While I'm talking about creepy behavior, please don't use "rape" to mean "use forcefully".  I submitted to a prof willingly, and he emoted about "raping my lips".  Ugh.  This sounds more stupid than sexy.

In the helping professions

It's important to have a good relationship with your boss:

That's the headmaster.  I checked in with him to make sure he knew I'd do anything he needed done.  What he needed done was my getting naked, submitting to a leash, and letting him finger me to orgasm.  The girl watching, another teacher, was ordered to strip and masturbate.

Now all that was nice, but what makes him so refreshing is his unfailing courtesy.  He is evidently tickled pink that women come and submit to him, but really, his flowery language and unfailing kindness make me want to kneel down and let him have his way with me.  It's the kind of kindness, of course, that's quite compatible with leashes and spankings and harsher punishments.  (He spanked the other girl for not spelling out 'thank you'.  A nice touch.)

But being a teacher has its perks lower down the hierarchy too.  A girl was being punished by a teacher, and ran away.  I picked up where he left off.. you can't just run away from your punishments, girl!  I assure you she learned her lesson and learned some of the rewards of a close relationship with the faculty.

Curiously, his second-in-command, the dean, is a cold fish.  A Gorean master, it says in his profile.  As junior staff I'm ready to submit to him too, but he's been pretty slow to make any moves, and never seems that interested in me.  Maybe he likes the shy reticent girls.

Two good alleys

So much depends on finding the right places, and the right people in them, who will go and find the right places, if you know what I mean.  What I mean is good RP sex.

One is Dark Alley, which Rita introduced me too... it doesn't seem like her style at all, unless it's that dark side of hers coming out.  Might as well show you a pic from that night.  She was a vampire... an extremely sadistic vampire... who happened to trap a poor mortal girl for awhile.  (Example: on a whim, she cut off one of my toes.  Then reattached it.  That girl has some dark impulses.)

Ooh that tickles
However, I stay out of abandoned laboratories these days.  Instead I joined the Dark Alley College, which is similar to the Hard Alley Reform School but a) looks a little less prisonlike and b) actually has people in it.  School play turns out to be just my thing.  There's something delicious about abuse of authority... I like the idea, in RP mind you, that anyone above you in the hierarchy can stop you, strip you naked, and fuck you.  And that you can then go and do the same to those below you.

I started out as a student, but there's the usual problem of sexual RP sims: a preponderance of subs.  Curiously, the headmaster told me that in pre-SL chat groups, they had the opposite problem-- too many dommes.  Hard to imagine!  Anyway, I asked for a hands-on interview with the headmaster and got promoted to teacher.  Tonight I had my first student... an art student.  I got her naked, quizzed her on bits of anatomy (touching them of course), posed her and sketched her, had her masturbate for me and the growing audience.  And when she'd come, I joined her right there and ate her out.  We pride ourselves on our interactive, memorable teaching style.

The headmaster complimented me on my lesson.  Though a domme, he's of the most lovely type: one who truly appreciates and loves women.  He is unfailingly polite and supportive, and you know, that's one of the quickest ways to make me want to get bound up and taken.

At DA I met Zara, a lovely brunette who's one of the most delightfully insatiable girls I've ever met.  It turns out she has her own sex club, Hedon Alley, so I've been inviting my friends there:

Picture of the club.  It's behind the fucking threesome

That's Mr. Kata, Zara, and me.  I asked Kata to come in male form as Zara really, really likes cock.  It turns out she likes pussy too, but she likes to warm up on cock.  I don't mean this with the slightest sense of shaming: she's really adorable, and its her hands-on welcoming attitude that makes the club go.  It's a little place with mostly her friends (and now mine) dropping by, and she's always trying to make sure everyone gets served.  Once she had four boys over, about two more than she could handle by herself, so she asked me to come help out.  I did, of course!  I danced for them, and they gave me L$... so sweet!  One wanted to fuck me and I was happy to... Zara's attitude is contagious.

I did have one bad experience, which I'll mention only because I learned a little more about myself.  I've told dommes a few times that one thing I don't like is verbal abuse.  Well, it turns out this is not only still in effect, but I really really don't like verbal abuse.  A friend, a very sweet one, was going to top me, and invited a friend along.  They both heaped on insults and abuse, and my response was to get completely furious.  I had to get out of the scene, something I haven't done for a long time.  I think I freaked out my friend, who is new to topping.  But it comes of not communicating clearly enough.  I'd told her I liked humiliation-- stripping, sex in public, being used roughly, getting pissed on, licking feet.  That's not the same as verbal abuse but I didn't make that clear.

(I don't mind being called a slut, things like that... I mean, why not, I am a slut.  And I know verbal abuse turns some people on.  Not me though.)

Not to end on a low note... I'm digging these two places, which have already produced a number of memorable scenes.  (For a little connectedness, I'm playing my teacher as a graduate of the reform school.  So she's a tough girl who has suddenly discovered that education can be a lot more fun than she ever suspected.)

No more KoS

Experiment with KoS ended.  I spent about a week on it, messing with the meter functions and meeting people.  The only interesting bit was the girl who asked to capture me in order to curry favor with her leader; I was then rescued by a Bedouin who invited me to join her tribe.

Then one night the leader of the tribe decided to attack a pirate slaver.  It was my first actual fight, and I was terrified of hitting the wrong person (KoS combat works by physically butting into someone, it's not very satisfying).  Anyway, the leader kept chewing us out for not helping (he had meter troubles and got captured), and he wouldn't let up; and then another girl (the one who had rescued me) bawled out two other people for unsatisfactory RP.

And you know, screw it.  RP is supposed to be fun, and these douches were supposedly my allies.

You can run into idiots anywhere, but I kind of blame it on the meters.  Meter combat always sucks in SL.  There's arguments over the meters, they give advantages for unfair things, they break up RP.  For my computer combat needs I'd rather just play video games.

And all the added functionality really adds nothing that RP couldn't do.  You can get money and a skill by repeating a job... well, that's really no better than declaring yourself a rogue or a dancer or an assassin or whatever.  It's an interesting experiment, but it doesn't produce stories.  Video games are just not the right model for SL RP.

Arabian RP

So, I've been trying out Kingdom of Sand.  Here!

The interesting thing about KOS is its thoroughgoing meter system.  It's not just a combat system, but has currency, compliments, age, level advances, a criminal justice system, and I don't even know what else.

It's the attempt at providing an economy that I find fascinating, as it relates back to concerns about SL RP I was going over years ago.  In KOS you can pick one of a couple dozen jobs, and work at them a bit every day.  You get game money for this (not L$), and ultimately special items you can sell or use, and after 42 days a "skill".  Most of the items ultimately relate to increasing health, so they're not quite as diverse as they seem; some relate to combat or trials, however.  E.g. as a fighter you can get an item that immediately cause 30 HP of damage.

On the plus side, it gives you something to do-- you only age in game terms if you spend 30 minutes in the sim,  plus you have to go get your skill points, grab something to eat, and all that gives some encouragement to talking... if nothing else, you have to explain the system to newcomers.

But..... well, I am not yet convinced that all this is better than just RPing everything out in text.  People get focused on the mechanics.  And there's something offputting about a levelling system; it means that newbies are always at a disadvantage. Still, points for effort.

A word to fantasy Arabian RPers

I've been playing a bit in a fantasy Middle Eastern sim called Kingdom of Sand.  It's not bad, especially now that I'm getting to know a few people.

I'd just like to note, though: people depicted as Bedouins going around nearly naked in an Arabian context is rather silly.  In the actual Arabian desert, people wear long cotton robes because it's cooler.  The robes trap a layer of cooler air by your skin.  Go around near-naked in 120 degree heat and bad things will happen to you.

Dasniya Sommer

Wow.  This is amazing.  Self-shibari as performance art.  Beautiful, sexy, and astonishingly athletic.

Three course meal

I haven't written here for awhile, but here's something worth noting: someone introduced me to a new fetish last night.  I've been in SL for four years, this is not an everyday thing. :)

I met Krista at the Lesbian Teahouse, a place where pretty reliably nothing happens.  But she talked to me about this blog and that led a little hot tubbing-- she's newish to SL bu has learned that water is a great way to get people's clothes off-- and then to messing around.

This was quite literal, as she is into lactation.  For some reason I've never played with someone who likes this, so it was new and very interesting.  It's rather sweet, for a fetish (and as a beverage)... kinky, but after all it's using breasts for their natural purpose!

But then we added some other fluids to the mix... I ate her out, and she sprayed me with gushes of cum and then a generous bladderful of pee.  I was pretty much a mess at the end of the evening, but happily so.  There's something particularly hot and intimate about not just enjoying a pretty girl's body, but the very fluids that come out of it...

Double demon deal

Kata's been busy in RL again, sadly.  But as if in recompense, Rita has discovered her pervy side!

During our encounter in the basilica, she talked about me being hers... we didn't really negotiate what this means, but we've both acted on the idea that she is my mistress now.   (I figure there are things that would awaken my character's independence, but nothing has even come close.)  She says that she was once human, and isn't used to being a demon yet...

A few nights later she had a demon friend, and I ran into both of them on the maintenance deck.  Rita was showing off now... she demonstrated how devoted I was; the other demon said I was quite pretty.  Rita then took me to a part of the ship where a wall opens into a demonic fucking machine.  She let the demon lord fuck her, then ordered me to strip and do the same.  I RP'd fear, but an obedience reinforced each time she touched or spoke to me.  So I let the lord fuck me too, and collapsed on the floor.  (I didn't pretend to like it!)

She has been a gentle mistress, but she's also good at a sort of passive-aggressive manipulation: she said "You're not too tired, are you?  Perhaps I should leave with my friend."  Of course I had to cry out for her and crawl forward to touch her.  She had her cock out, which provided a focus...

Now the other demon was excited; she was a shemale too.  So they both ended up fucking me... simultaneously; I sucked Rita's cock while her friend fucked me, and then they switched off.   They each came inside me the first time, and all over my body the second time... I had my own orgasms when Rita did; after all, if you're not completely fulfilled when your demon mistress fills you with her cock and spurts her precious cum inside you, when will you be?

Finally she licked off my face and had me dress— I was hers alone, others shouldn't see me naked.  They didn't let me shower, so I had demon cum under my blouse...

Olivia is not a retiring or weak character; she's an investigator of the supernatural, and used to standing up to fearsome things.  But she was also a lesbian in an era where homosexuality was hidden, and she was sexually frustrated; she wasn't prepared for a beautiful female demon.  And a fascination with the supernatural could easily bleed over into sexual attraction.

So very unexpectedly Rita has connected with my submissive side.  I'll have to turn the tables on her eventually, but I'm enjoying it now.  The cock was a little unexpected, but whatever makes Rita into a more sexual being, I'm in favor.  Besides, it seems appropriate for a demon somehow... they're randy buggers, as one said to me, and they want to fuck you.  A strap-on won't do.

Demonic devolution

How my friend Rita has changed!  When I met her, she had a note in her profile that said she rejected any "chat sex".  She was so lovely, and such a good RPer, that I pursued her anyway.  And eventually the warning disappeared. :)  Apparently I gave her her first lesbian sex, which is always nice.  And now, look at her:

Yes, she is in demon form, and bought herself a big gray cock!  And with my very willing help she learned how to use it last night.

I know, I'm a bad influence.

How to be a rogue

No sex this entry, I'm afraid.  Instead I'm going to ramble about how to RP a rogue.

Some video games, especially those by Bioware, support a good vs. evil morality system which seems geared toward teenage boys.  Some of them make an attempt to make the 'evil' option more defensible (e.g. Mass Effects' "renegade"), but it still comes down to acting like an insulting, arrogant asshole.  There's a whole 'nother approach, that of the rogue.

The basics

Most of this is personal taste, but models include characters like Han Solo, Catwoman, Sam Spade, the Gray Mouser, Lilith from Borderlands, Hunter from Neverwhere, and just about anyone played by Humphrey Bogart.

When possible, use ranged weapons.  Why risk getting hurt when you can get the job done from afar?

Be polite, even friendly.  You can learn a lot that way, and why put anyone on guard?

Never boast.  Let your actions be your best advertisement.  It's always best if no one else knows what cards you have.

If you promise to do anything-- whether it's to find the missing prince or to cut someone if they say another word-- follow through.  Conversely, never make a threat you can't back up.

75% of making a role work-- whether it's domming or an impersonation-- is attitude.  Be confident and don't talk too much.

Dress conservatively, protecting your body but allowing flexible movement.  Black leather is perfect.  You want to disappear in the shadows without being given away by gleaming metal.

You may wish to partner with a strong, flamboyant warrior.  The fact that they will attract all the attention will allow you to be all the deadlier.

You are always wary.  By instinct and constant vigilance, you keep your back from the seemingly friendly stranger, you know where the exits are, you don't ignore little sounds.

You're not demonstrative-- you show little sign of anger, resentment, or fear.  But you're a good actor; you can easily pose as the best friend of your victim.

Even if you rely on your blade or your blaster, you value knowledge.  You speak multiple languages, you know more than one town street by street, and you have skills from a number of crafts.  Though skeptical of religion and magic, you don't foolishly reject them either; you may know a few useful spells or prayers.

You never lose sight of what you're after, whether it's revenge, gold, or information.

A female rogue isn't above using her charms to disarm or to find out information, and certainly doesn't object to sex.  But maintain some reserve, and make it obvious you know how to use your weapons.  Sex can make males a bit irrational; use this to your advantage.

Rogues can be good or evil, but always have a healthy dash of the opposite alignment.  If good, they are never zealous and may be reluctant to commit to a fight that seems unwinnable.  If evil (or more likely self-interested), they may nonetheless be charming and might have a friend or a romance with the other side.

The appeal

One reason I like to play rogues, I think, is that it's a more feminine approach.  It's logical, for one: dealing damage from afar or by surprise makes sense for a smaller, weaker body.  Posturing-- being nasty or arrogant like a teenage gamer boy, or boastful like a Homeric hero-- tends to seem ridiculous to women.  And acting comes naturally.

On the other hand, none of this should be assumed to apply to real life!  I am quiet in real life but hardly sneaky, and an actual amoral person in real life is a huge headache, not a hero!  Some things are great fun in games and books and movies but not in reality.

On being a switch

I think I realized something about my domme/sub preferences recently.  It switches back and forth, you see.  My not very profound realization is that if I haven't done either for awhile, then I crave submission.  Domming is haaaard, let's go subbing.  But if I'm getting enough of it, I prefer to top.

A girl showing proper respect
During my first year in SL, I had two long-term subs.  That meant a fair amount of topping, and my profile said that I was generally a domme.  But when I hit a dry spell and don't have much B/D at all, I usually want to be topped.

But this is all complicated by my experience that I'll have a better time with a random sub than with a random domme (or even dom).  I'm a little wary of submitting to a relative stranger... at the very least I'd like to see if they can RP and if they're into anything really weird.

On the other hand, it's never too late to learn something new.  Just last night, messing around in a hot tub, a friend introduced me rather suddenly to breath play.  She held my head down underwater, while I was licking her pussy, and was very very slow to let me up to breathe.  I don't know why, and I don't know if it would work again, but for some reason I found this incredibly hot.

Reactions can be odd though.  Also recently, I was playing as a student at the reform school.  At one point no less than three people were leaning on me: a teacher, her student pet, and a passing staff member.  Far from making me feel submissive, I was pissed off.  If it takes three people to hold me down, that's not a topping, it's just a beatdown.

How not to do it, part 3

Last night racked up a couple more entries in the Bad Encounters sweepstakes.  One was a boy who accosted my friend Donna when I took her to Hard Alley.  Problems:
  • Extremely poor English.  Donna had trouble understanding what he wanted.
  • He wanted some capture RP but apparently didn't know how to do it.  It'd pretty sad when a girl has to give lessons to an abuser.
  • Asked for voice and RL pictures.  Oh god.  Donna bolted for safety.  I really hate this type of guy, who treats SL as foreplay for webcam sex or something.
At the same time, I got into a conversation with a woman who proceeded to prove that unattractive behavior is not a male monopoly.  She wasn't obnoxious, she was just boring.  It was all "hello, how are you" and "what are you here for" and "anything good?"  No RP, no curiosity, no hint of what she might like.  Advice for people of both sexes: say something interesting.  Start with a joke, or say something nice about my avatar, or a comment about something specific in my profile.  All of those will start you out with a net positive.
